SAIL PRISCILLA Home Booking Media History Crew Experience the Great South Bay book a sail 1888 Oyster Sloop Priscilla The oyster sloop Priscilla was built by Patchogue River boat-builder Elisha Saxton for George Rhinehart of Lawrence, NY and named after his wife - Priscilla. Her early years were spent in Jamaica Bay; oystering on Rhinehart’s private grounds. She was eventually sold to an oysterman in Mianus, CT and continued in various Connecticut fleets until 1963. Her rig was changed several times as she was converted from a working vessel to a pleasure craft. In 1976, she was donated to the Long Island Maritime Museum ; at which point, she was rigged as a schooner. By the turn of the century, she was in need of a full restoration. It was completed in 2003, when she was relaunched with the assistance of Priscilla Rhinehart’s great-great grandchildren.
